We are currently recruiting for a dedicated Test Technician to join our train facility in Doncaster. In this exciting role the successful candidate will undertake test & commissioning, corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing and repair of rolling stock assets.
Main Responsibilities
Responsible for ensuring that rolling stock systems and functions perform in accordance with designed requirements and that any discrepancies are assessed, investigated and repaired in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Read and extract information from rolling stock drawings and specifications
- Confirm that rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications by the use of engineering processes and techniques
- Identify, assess and rectify defects and discrepancies on rolling stock assets
- Prepare for and undertake the removal and replacement of rolling stock components
- Interrogate the SAP system to determine if spares are available to complete specific works orders
- Install new and replacement rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques
- Create technical scopes of work for fault rectification by other members of staff
- Identify repeat defects on rolling stock assets, carry out repairs to such assets and propose solutions that will reduce the occurrence of repeat defects
- Support reliability technicians with regards reliability improvements to rolling stock assets
- Support the PI Team Leaders and PI Production Manager in the delivery of the PI production plan.
- Modify or manufacture rolling stock components by material removal / replacement using hand tools
- Complete approved modifications to rolling stock systems software, to maintain the latest Software Baseline and according to competence and experience
- Actively participate in the ongoing continuous improvement activities for maintenance processes and maintenance procedures that support all depot and fleet activities
- Prepare for and undertake planned and unplanned maintenance activities
- Attend and provide technical support with failures in service when on duty, as required
- Keep SAP record system up to date with clear and concise information of work carried out.
- Record all work activities and stock consumption using the maintenance management system in accordance with maintenance processes and procedures.
- Provide operational support to users of rolling stock assets
- Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment
- Adhere to health, safety, environmental & quality practices in the workplace
- Must be prepared to travel and overnight away from base location for specified periods of time.
- Working shifts to meet PI requirements.
- Attendance at any specified PI location, main line station and outstations to undertake PI activities as required
- Attend trains on the Network to assess and investigate failed and reduced functions
- Manage testing of rolling stock on the operating network, supporting Test Engineers as required
- Develop professionally and support good working relationships
Essential
Licences / Competences:
- Stock-Specific maintenance and faulting
- Depot Protection
- Working at Height
- Manual Handling
- Powered plant and tools – air / 110v
- Crimping competence & assessment
- M & E HNC or served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines
- Engineering based NVQ level 3
- Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to represent in a professional manner at all times
- Good team worker
