Are you an engineer with a passion for product development in the aerospace industry?
My client is looking for a talented and driven Product Development Engineer to join the team on a 6-month fixed-term contract. Based at their Tewkesbury site, you’ll play a key role in developing hydraulic components for both commercial and military aircraft components that are critical for flight control and engine control systems.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an innovative, technically challenging environment where collaboration and technical excellence are at the heart of everything they do. You’ll work alongside multidisciplinary teams and contribute to cutting-edge projects that make a real impact in the aerospace sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Development: Design, develop, and qualify hydraulic components for aircraft, working across the entire product lifecycle.
- Process FMEAs & Mitigation Actions: Develop and implement mitigation strategies based on FMEAs and other reviews, ensuring effective solutions are implemented.
- Tooling Requirements: Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to support tooling development and procurement.
- Documentation: Write and maintain assembly instructions, production worksheets, and reports in support of product development and qualification.
- Performance Calculations & Testing: Conduct performance calculations using defined methods, with a preference for candidates experienced with Mathcad Prime. Support hydraulic testing and resolve any issues that arise during development tests.
- Collaboration: Engage with various functions including design, manufacturing, and quality assurance to ensure smooth project execution.
- Self-Driven & Autonomous: Take ownership of your tasks, managing your time effectively to meet project deadlines while maintaining strong communication across teams.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of mechanical and hydraulic principles, with a basic grasp of electrical theory. Ability to interpret technical drawings.
- Problem-Solving: Experience in performing FMEAs, developing risk mitigation strategies, and executing design reviews.
- Documentation Skills: Proficient in writing technical reports (e.g., Similarity & Analysis reports, Development Test reports) and creating clear assembly instructions.
- Software Proficiency: High competency in Microsoft Word. Familiarity with Mathcad Prime (and conversion of worksheets from Mathcad 15 to Prime) is highly desirable.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to actively engage in face-to-face communication across departments.
- Self-Motivation: Proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and autonomy in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
