TXM Recruit TXM News
Shining the spotlight on one of our rising stars within TXM Group, we’re pleased to announce the exciting journey Recruitment Consultant Megan Grace is about to embark on: moving to Australia to join sister company 2XM Recruit.
Megan joined TXM Recruit as a Trainee Consultant and has recently been representing TXM across America and Canada, working closely with clients and candidates within the rail industry. We caught up with Megan to hear about her upcoming adventures down under!
What is your current role at TXM?
“I currently work for TXM Inc who specialises in Engineering and Rail recruitment across North America and Canada. I am a specialist head-hunter within the rolling stock industry currently located in Derby. I focus on placing senior management level roles such as Operations and Maintenance positions as well as Technical Management positions for worldwide rail companies. My focus is placing candidates into roles within the United States and Canada in various states and provinces for clients such as Hitachi Rail, Alstom, Progress Rail, New York Air Brake, Stadler, Atkins, and Canadian National Railway.”
How did the opportunity to move to Australia come about?
“The original plan was to move to New York, however COVID changed my plans. In the meantime, the 2XM Recruit team over in Sydney needed support within their Rail team and asked me if this was something I would be interested in. This was an easy ‘yes’ as it’s an exciting opportunity for me to gain valuable international experience whilst helping to assist 2XM.”
What does the moving process involve?
“The main thing I needed to sort before travelling was my visa. The process took a couple of months, mainly due to the visa process being slightly delayed – again because of the backlog of visas they had before closing their borders due to the pandemic. Apart from this though, the process has been very smooth. There are a lot of things to get prepared so I’m ready to get started when I arrive – it’s a big move for me and it is a little scary, but I’m mostly excited. The support and advice I’ve received from colleagues has made it easier.”
What will life Down Under look like?
“I’ll be living in Sydney and hoping to rent somewhere in Bondi Beach. My role will be largely the same, focusing on permanent and contract positions within the rail sector. I’m really looking forward to working with Steven Abbott, 2XM Recruit’s East Coast Divisional Manager for Rail, as well as getting to know the rest of the Australia team. I think my work for TXM Inc has provided me with international experience, being able to adapt to different cultures and working techniques.”
As we are celebrating International Women’s Day, do you think it is important women are provided the opportunity to further their career like you have?
“Of course! Everyone deserves to feel proud of what they are achieving in their career as well as get excited about what they can achieve regardless, of their gender! I hope my experience can empower others to follow suit.”
What would you say to other women thinking of making a similar move?
“I would echo what everyone has said to me – “go for it!”. No matter how much the idea of something new scares you, always try and experience everything you can. And if it doesn’t work out, then you have done nothing but gained a new experience! You might discover new things out about yourself that you would have never known – hopefully I will find out that I can find my way around a new city on my own!”
