TXM Recruit TXM News
TXM Recruit hosted an open evening at the Yard, Pride Park to give interested members of the Derby public a look under the hood at the exciting and fast paced world of recruitment.
The team secured the services of two former international sportsman as special guests to attend the event and share insight on their world as athletes as well as their ongoing support as Ambassadors for TXM Recruit.
Former New Zealand International and now BBC Rugby League Pundit, Robbie Hunter-Paul hosted the evening, putting Rugby legend and 2003 Rugby Union World Cup winner, Jason Robinson OBE in the hot seat to explore what skills he's used both in business and on the field to make him world class and why he wanted to ‘join a winning team’ with his ongoing work with TXM.
Added to the roster of top line sporting speakers is former professional footballer and TXM Recruit Managing Director, James Wall. We caught up with James earlier who shared the company's reasons for the event and about what makes Derby's new office so special: “TXM Recruit made the decision in 2017 to open our Derby office as our company’s DNA is aligned to that of the city. For someone who has grown up, went to school and worked in Derby my whole life I personally know how passionate and proud ‘Derbyians’ are of their home town.
“For me, the very best of Derby is a combination of world class engineering and sport. Derby is the UK’s largest city for exports and having global engineering giants such as Toyota, Bombardier and Rolls Royce they truly are a city that can boast to be all about trains, planes and automobiles. The local supply chain that accommodates the ‘big 3’ consistently demonstrates innovation, excellence and highly skilled workers. This is another reason why Derby is outperforming other East Midlands cities such as Nottingham and Leicester when it comes to job creation, net income and housing.
“Having worked in recruitment for the past 18 years in and around the city, a typical conversation with clients will often take on 3 aspects: How their business intends to improve and continue to compete? Where can we find the next superstar engineer or people to design, build or maintain their product? And what is the current state of play with Derby County Football Club?
“The synergy between TXM and Derby is unquestionable, our business was founded by engineers who had backgrounds in rail, motorsport and general engineering. Since our inception some 15 years ago we have attracted and employed numerous sporting greats and some not so greats!”
“The likes of Jason Robinson and Robbie Hunter Paul – both Rugby legends in League and Union is a great example. Both have entered into business after an illustrious sporting career to find their home at TXM. The combination of engineering and sport continues with TXM employing 9 former professional sportsmen and women as well as sponsoring 6 different rugby, netball and football teams in our local area.
“The desire and necessity to open our office in Derby was undeniable. The heartland of British engineering with the largest cluster of rail companies in the world was as they say ‘a no brainer’.
“Since opening, we have employed recruitment consultants with a mixture of experience and skills ranging from vastly experienced recruitment professionals to trainees looking for their first opportunity to work in the industry. The clear advantage for TXM when opening in a new city like Derby is our pedigree and impressive list of clients that our current and prospective consultants work with.”
“The likes of Mercedes HPP, Red Bull F1, Hitachi Rail, Bombardier, Stadler, Amey, British Gas, Tesco, Eaton Aerospace, Moog but to name a few gives our consultants the opportunity to work on recruitment projects that: find engineers to build and test Lewis Hamilton’s engine, or a Project Manager who is responsible for a £400m rail contract or a team of Gas Engineers that are needed to install 5000 boilers on a new build housing estate or an engineer who is to design a new turbine blade that will be used on a brand new fleet of Airbus planes. The exposure of our consultants and prospective consultants have to our clients and their projects enables them to have a unique opportunity to find the best engineers that gives our clients the best possible chance of succeeding in a project or design or build.
“Working with some of the previously listed clients has recently taken on a new challenge. At the end of 2018 we started supporting our clients and their non UK based subsidiaries with recruitment in countries such as France, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Thailand, Malaysia, South Africa and more recently a number of large recruitment projects in the US.
“Our Derby based recruitment consultants now work different hours to match the time zones in the particular region of the world that they are sourcing candidates from, furthermore our consultants have had the licence to fly out to a number of countries to conduct recruitment drives, reviews with customers and understand the in-country laws and cultures. As a young consultant I would have loved the opportunity to travel and work, experiencing different cultures and working practices… Here at TXM in Derby this is possible.
“Our open evening in Derby at The Yard, has given people the opportunity to hear from a variety of people at TXM including Jason Robinson. Robbo explains his upbringing, winning the world cup, his business career after sport and why he enjoys working with TXM – the winning team.
“We are looking for new consultants both experienced and trainees who want to hear more about career opportunities within our business. We specifically have vacancies are looking to employ people who will focus on aerospace, construction and rail industries. Our consultants will be given a specific specialism with one of the 3 aforementioned industries and we will support them through our excellent training programme so that they can develop into a highly skilled recruitment consultant.”
